Presented by Kirk Turner

It’s that time of the year again when Kirk Turner will be our featured speaker at our August meeting. As is usual when Kirk is our presenter, this program meeting will undoubtedly be our best-attended program meeting for the year. As space is limited, you will want to promptly make your reservation. This year Kirk is going to provide us with a presentation on the "Biggest Mistakes Employers Make and How to Avoid Them!" Based on Kirk's more than 30 years of experience in representing employers in all areas of employment litigation, he has identified the key reasons why employers have been sued by applicants, employees, and former employees and what employers should instead be doing to provide a respectful, productive workplace, one that is legally compliant and free from any form of harassment, discrimination, or other illegal conduct.

This will be an entertaining and practical session that every Human Resources Professional and Employment Leader needs to hear.

Immediately following the August Program meeting, Kirk will be providing live, interactive Supervisory Training for employers of all sizes to discuss important legal compliance obligations for leaders and the risks of failing to comply. More specifically, Kirk will provide training on managing employees with health conditions and successfully navigating the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"), the Family and Medical Leave Act ("FMLA"), and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act ("PWFA").  As part of the training, Kirk will provide real-life examples of situations where leaders failed to act properly and the legal consequences that occurred as a result.  Again, because space is limited, you will want to promptly register your managers and supervisors to attend this informative, practical, and interactive two-hour session.

The fee for the Supervisory Training is $100 per person and registration is separate from the program meeting ($30 Members, $50 Guests). Register four (4) or more individuals from the same company and receive the discounted rate of $90 per person. To register a group for the training, please sign up under the Supervisory Training here

Kirk is one of the most sought out speakers and trainers on employment-related issues in the country. He has built a nation-wide leadership and legal compliance training practice to help leaders of organizations better engage and communicate with employees in a legally compliant way, consistently hold employees accountable to performance and behavioral expectations, and constructively help employees improve or help them go work elsewhere. As most of you know, Kirk is a partner in the law firm of McAfee & Taft, the largest law firm in Oklahoma, which has the largest labor and employment law practice group in this region of the country. Over his more than 30-year legal career, Kirk has been repeatedly recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America in the area of labor and employment law and has been honored as one of the Top 50 lawyers in Oklahoma.

In support of the Human Resources profession, Kirk served as the Vice President of Legal and Legislative Affairs on the SHRM Tulsa (formerly TAHRA) Board of Directors for more than two decades, served as the TAHRA President in 2002-2003, and has served on many HR-related national, state, and local organizations in his career, including serving for many years on the OKHR Board of Directors and the SHRM National Labor and Employee Relations Committee.
